BACKPACKING/HIKING CAMPOUT

February 21-23, 2020

The Troop will be hiking the Crosstimbers Trail along Lake Texoma. It's located between Pottsboro and Gainsville -- about 1.25 hours away from Allen. On Saturday morning, we will break off into two different adventures:

(1) The Philmont crew (and any scout who is equipped and physically able to make the 5 mile hike in and back out) will take a rugged hike and camp on the trial Saturday night. These scouts will need to have a 65 liter pack capable of carrying all their personal gear, along with food, tent, and crew gear -- stove, water filters, cooking gear, water.  Equipment List - Philmont Scout Ranch 

(2) The other scouts will remain at base camp (Juniper Point) both nights to complete other rank, camping and cooking requirements.  This crew will take a light day hike (2.5 miles in and 2.5 miles out) carrying a daypack.  This trip is perfect for scouts who still need the requirement of a 5 mile hike for advancement, but aren't ready to carry a 40 pound backpack. Their daypacks will need to include water, compass, lunch, first aid kit, rain gear, pocket knife and a flash light for their hike. Both crews will be eating Philmont issued trail meals -- B1, B3, L5, and D6 from Surplus Trail Meals.
