Trey Damico Eagle Project Begins

Description
Hello Troop 1299,

Did you know that only a small percentage of children’s books show children of color?  As part of my Eagle Scout project, I am collecting children’s books, coloring books, and skin tone crayons to promote diversity education for preschool children.

I will be creating packets with the things collected above. The packets with each have 1-2 books, a coloring book, and a pack of Crayola's new skin tone crayons.

My hope is that children of color will be able to see themselves represented in these books and learn to love their skin from a young age.  The goal is to empower children and encourage cultural pride.

I also hope that children who are not of color will appreciate, accept, and truly value their peers of color.  The goal is to see skin color and cherish how we can learn from our differences.

According to studies, when you encourage diversity in children’s books early, you facilitate social-emotional intelligence.  Let’s help all families begin positive conversations about racism and discrimination!

The beneficiary of my Eagle Scout project is Allen Learn and Playday Preschool.   Can you help?

You can use this Amazon wish list to donate items for the project or purchase from any other stores.  Please let me know if you would like to purchase elsewhere and need my address.

Thank you, for your support.

Trey Damico
