Summer Camp 2022

JULY 6-17, 2022 | camp buffalo bill

Our adventure will be here before you know it!  Below are time-sensitive items you need to be aware of prior to our departure on July 6th:

MANDATORY PARENT MEETING:  Please plan to attend on Monday, June 27th, beginning at 7:00 pm (during normal troop meeting) at Suncreek.  We will go over important items you need to be aware of and answer any questions you may have.

BSA SWIM TEST:  If you have not completed the swim test, please make arrangements ASAP to get this done.  If not, you will not be able to participate in any water-based activities at Summer Camp.  Some of you are registered for merit badges that require classification as "swimmer."  You will be dropped from your class if you have not successfully completed the swim test.  Please contact Mrs. Oswald for recommendations on testing locations.  Remember to bring the unit swim classification form for the instructor to fill out, and ask for a copy of their certification.

BSA ANNUAL HEALTH and MEDICAL RECORDS: Parts A, B, C (and D for YHAO participants) must be current and have an expiration date after 7/17/22.  If you've been contacted regarding expired or missing forms, please respond ASAP.  This is  a critical item and we need this finalized soon.  Click HERE to access forms (YHAO participants are to use Philmont's version of Part D).  Contact Mrs. Arvind if you have any questions.

MERIT BADGE CLASSES:  All scouts have been registered, and we were able to accommodate most requests.  Please click HERE to download the class schedule.  Find your schedule and review it for any prerequisites or special requirements (fishing license, swim test, items to bring, etc.).  Contact us if you would like to make a change to this schedule.

FISHING LICENSE:  If you wish to do some fishing during our time in Wyoming, and you are age 14 or over, please make arrangements to purchase a fishing license online prior to departure.  If you are registered for Fishing or Fly-fishing merit badges (and are 14 or over), then a license is mandatory.  Please review the camp's FAQ page (scroll all the way to the bottom) for information regarding fishing equipment, licenses, etc.

GEAR: We will cover this in the parent meeting on 06/27, but please review the camp's packing lists below for an idea of items you will need to pack.  Since we are traveling via charter bus, it is important to pack light, and pack smart!  Packing all your gear in a single, medium-sized duffel is ideal.  The less pieces you have to keep track of, the better.

Itinerary

Troop 1299 is booked for week 4 at Camp Buffalo Bill (07/10-07/16). We will depart Allen on Wednesday, 07/06, arrive and camp at Grant Village Campground on the shore of Yellowstone Lake on Thursday, 07/07 where we will spend the next few days visiting several exciting venues prior to arriving at Camp Buffalo Bill on Sunday for the start of Summer Camp. We will return to Allen on Sunday, 07/17. Click HERE for a day-to-day bus itinerary including travel stops to/from Yellowstone (subject to change).

BSA Annual Health and Medical Record

Please make sure your annual health and medical record is complete and current. This includes Part C (pre-participation physical) for ALL participants. In addition, the "High Adventure Risk Advisory to Health-Care Providers and Parents" (Part D) is required for YHAO participants. Use the Philmont link for this section. Click HERE for access to the most current forms.

Swimming Test

Swim checks must be completed prior to arrival at Camp Buffalo Bill. A swim classification record (Beginner, Swimmer, or Non-Swimmer) is required for all scouts planning to attend a merit badge offered at the Waterfront (canoeing, kayaking, rowing, or other aquatics activity). Camp Buffalo Bill DOES NOT offer swim checks.

General Information

The scouts in Troop 1299 have elected to attend Camp Buffalo Bill for Summer Camp in 2022.  Camp Buffalo Bill lies eight miles east of Yellowstone National Park in the Shoshone National Forest and has provided a quality summer camp experience for youth since 1949.

There is a program for scouts at all levels.  New Scouts can earn the outdoor requirements for First Class in the Eagle Claw Program.  Older Scouts can advance on the Eagle trail by participating in an extensive merit badge program.

Scouts who are looking for a real challenge and are at least 13 years old and have completed the 8th grade can participate in backpacking, climbing and rappelling, or whitewater rafting through the Yellowstone High Adventure Outpost.

When not in merit badge classes, scouts can participate in camp wide games, open program area time, go on a hike, fish in a stocked pond, or many other available activities.

Space will be limited.  To find out more about Summer Camp with our Troop during 2022, please contact our Summer Camp Coordinator via email or at our next Troop Meeting.
